The Start Of A New Week,

now what to do for the weekend?

in the UK the annual International Worthing Birdman is being held on the 18th & 19th of this month, great fun for all as intrepid would be pioneers try to fly/glide off of the pier at Worthing on the Sussex coast, of course it should be mentioned that many plummet straight in to the sea, but the costumes and devices are used to raise money for charities, flights/fails Sat 2.10pm-4pm; Sun 2.50pm-5pm,

for our Continental cousins how about heading to the Swiss Alps for the annual Chur Festival? wild whiskers and marvellous moustaches are the focus of Alpine Beard Festival, not to mention the food stalls and musical entertainment, the event attracts over 100,000 for the 3 day event on the 17,18 and 19th of this month, by the way if you want to be in with the in crowd, the hot spot in town is Giger Bar, Comercialstrasse 23 (tel. 081/253-75-06), the Oscar-winning H. R. Giger, a native of Chur and set designer on the movie Alien, was responsible for creating this 1980's bar and disco with its star ship Enterprise aura, (check it is open, just in case!), or for a change of pace what better than Elvis?

this the 11th International Elvis Festival, the Bad Nauheim episode in the life of Elvis Presley is celebrated for the eleventh time from 16th to 19th August, From 1958 to 1960, Elvis Presley had his “European home“ in the Hessian town close to Frankfurt, every year since 2002, Bad Nauheim has hosted a “European Elvis festival” For the duration of the celebration Rock ´n´ Roll becomes a way of life for an entire town, I guess some from here in Pattaya might be performing there! going across the pond,

the Chicago Air and Water Show, is a sight to see, the show can be viewed along the lakefront from Fullerton to Oak Street, with North Avenue Beach as the focal point, the good news is that it is free admission on North Ave. Beach, the dates are Aug. 18 & 19, 10 am - 3 pm both days, one of the stars of the show will be the  U.S. Navy Blue Angels (above), of course we must not forget those down under,

with the Hamilton Race Week which is the largest regatta in Australia, the event is situated on the edge of the Great Barrier Reef, amongst Queensland's 74 Whitsunday Islands, the race dates are 17 - 25 August 2012, a sudden rush of entries for Audi Hamilton Island Race Week 2012 has seen the fleet of yachts go beyond 150, then in just a few days, surge past 160, so it should be a sight to remember, now all we have to do is decide which event to go for!
