I Never Knew This,

in the UK every 'company vehicle' must have a no smoking sign displayed inside of it,

like this van here with the company logo, it was just picked up from having the companies livery put on it when the driver was stopped, Freddie Beasley, 28, from Cleankill Environmental Services had just picked up the brand new van from a garage when he was pulled over in a joint police and council operation to clamp down on 'dodgy' vehicles, one eagle eyed clipboard-wielding council officers then, however, spotted that he didn't had a 'no smoking' sticker on his gleaming van and he was given an on-the-spot fine of £200, the sad part is that if Freddie was stopped on the way to having the van fitted with the company logo it would have been considered a 'personal van' and no fine would have been issued,

above is the sign that would have saved a £200 fine in the operation run by Haringey Council, the operation run by police and bailiffs was called 'Operation Stop It' and was aimed at cracking down on 'unlicensed waste carriers' - fly-tippers - and other vehicles guilty of 'environmental crime' of course the driver could have actually been smoking, which perversely would have been a lot cheaper, in that case he would only have been fined £50, I must remember to make sure our van in the UK has one of these signs!
