We Are Always Told To Read The Fine Print,

but there are a few people out there,

that wished they had checked the measurements as well, many people get scammed, but the best ones are those that hold up in court, like this one, this is the story of the owner of Wichita Falls oil company, a Mr. J. D. McMahon, he drew up a set of plans in the early 1900s to construct a skyscraper in Wichita, Texas, the blueprints appeared to show the building to be 480 feet (146 metres) tall and he collected some $200,000 (around $2.7m at today’s prices) to get going on construction, preferring to keep things in-house, he decided to use his own construction company to build the structure, now here is the rub, everyone thought he was building a 480 foot tower, he was not, he was in fact building a 480 inch one, as shown on the plans, worse still he did not even have permission to build on the land, the investors tried to bring a lawsuit against him, but the judge found that they didn't have a case, they'd signed off on the original blueprints that clearly stated it would be 480 inches tall, all of this was academic however, McMahon had already disappeared with the money, to see the full story and what is happening to the ‘skyscraper’ today have a look here.
