When I First Saw This,

I had to ask, why?

photograph Saad.Khan.1995/Wikimedia Commons, why would you want a ATM at an elevation of 4,693 meters? that just happens to be the highest-altitude cash machine in the world, the cash point is located at the Khunjerab Pass border between China and Pakistan, I mean it is not as if there are any shops in the area! but around 4 to 5 million rupees, at today's rate £43,000 or $48,500 to £54,000 or $60,600, is withdrawn from the machine every couple of weeks,

apparently the bank takes this machine seriously because of the people who rely on it, “They might be insignificant in numbers, but they often reside in the huge park itself and don’t have any other medium to transfer their salaries to loved ones and family,” Zahid Hussain said, as you might expect,

the world’s highest ATM a title certified by Guinness World Records, is a draw for tourist to take a selfie, and as the article at the BBC website jokes, you can get some "cold, hard cash", just hope the machine does not eat your card!
