they are loved and cherished,
or they are the stuff of nightmares, and that is what many people feel when the walk below these, located in the middle of Avenida Este 12, between
Fuerzas Armadas and Sur 5, in a place known as “El Muerto” corner, there is the
“Balcony of the Dolls” it is a two-storey building that has captured the
imagination of both locals and visitors of the Venezuelan capital, photograph Facebook, stories and urban legends about the creepy balcony have been going around Caracas for years, some of the neighbors suspect that the family are allegedly performing black magic in the house, one of the most popular myths about this unique attraction is that it’s the house of a hunchbacked old man who comes out at midnight to steal the girls’ dolls while they sleep, some thought it was a satanic symbol, others that the dolls were actual babies,
it is this
sort of story that makes a lot of people avoid the Gonzalez house at
night if they can avoid it, but the truth of the scary dolls is that it is an artistic installation, according to RT,
the balcony is the creation of local visual artist Etanís González , who owns
the house and has turned part of it into a museum. The balcony is merely one of
his many art installations, according to Mr. Gonzalez’s son, Jonathan, the creepy
installation was inspired by the friendship their family
developed with Mr. Jesús Poleo, a Caracas driver who has a truck decorated with
dolls. It took his father 3 years to complete, as he attached each doll head by
hand, one by one, with great care, as it happens we have featured dolls a number of times on the blog, and I have to say for Diana when she looked at the ones in Pollocks Toy Museum, she did find them a bit scary dairy.
