in a 1948 vintage MG TD that Robert bought for £150 some 40 years ago, Mrs Douglas, 60, said: 'we’ve done long-distance touring in the past, we went around Australia in 2002 and in 2008 we drove from the southernmost tip of South America, through central America, up the west coast of America and to Alaska, to the furthest point you can get to in the north in a car, starting out in May they have just completed their journey,

the drive took them through Western and Eastern Europe, Russia, China and south-east Asia to Singapore before the car went by boat to New Zealand where they have set up a new life, the couple, who have also driven from the tip of South America to the most Northerly Point of North America, said it was tough navigating the car through the desert, Mr Douglas said : 'the hardest part of the journey was navigating through Mongolia, where the roads are more like tracks made by vehicles through the desert',
