well I thought it was,
the Hotel Carter was known for much of its life as the Hotel Dixie, opened on April 22, 1930, the Dixie was home to a bus depot, the Central Union Bus Terminal, which at the time was the largest enclosed bus station in New York, buses entered beside the hotel’s entrance on West 43rd and proceeded underground,
but here is the neat bit, the underground bus terminal had a 10 bus turntable, buses would pull in and passengers would wait for or get off the buses then go to their ultimate destinations, what a great idea for a shopping mall or similar to save space and not have scores of buses and coaches clogging op the roads as they load or unload passengers, even more amazing is that parts of the 35-foot turntable and entrances to the 1930s idea can still be seen today,
I wonder if well will ever see the same idea being used as inner city real estate prices continues to rise? as an aside the Hotel Carter returned to Nation's dirtiest hotels list.
