Have You Ever Thought About Buying A Secondhand One Of These?

if the answer is yes read on,

it appears that BMW have gained a reputation for being amongst the worst on the second-hand market for developing faults, according to researchers, in the biggest survey of car reliability in the UK, nearly 40,000 drivers were quizzed on the most common faults, so I guess the results will be the same pretty much everywhere else, the BMW 3 series convertible, aged between between four and eight years old, was likely to be off the road longest for repairs at an average of 3.5 days, the most common faults are all relatively minor, such as jammed fuel filler caps, remote keyfob faults and rattles and noises from interior trim,

but sometimes things can be a lot more serious, many years ago I advised Chrome Dome not to buy a secondhand BMW 535i, one of the reasons was that it had cloth seats amongst others, but he bought it anyway, it staggered from one breakdown to another, the engine and airconditioning were the main issues that had to replaced but the list went on and on, maybe he was just unlucky, but this report rings so true of his experience of his second hand BMW, as an aside here is a list of failures the report was compiled from Which? magazine,

newer cars off the road for repair longest, under 3 years old,
Peugeot 3008
Land Rover Discover 4
Alfa Romeo Guiletta
BMW 3 series convertible
Citroen 5

older cars off the road for repair longest, from 4 to 8 years old,
BMW 3 series convertible
Land Rover Discovery 5
BMW 5 series Touring
Volvo XC90 (that was a surprise I did not think a Volvo would feature on a list like this)
Citroen C4 Grand Picasso

so there you have it, a few cars it might be prudent to avoid on the secondhand market, but here is the good news armed with this article there might be a few pounds to be knocked off of some of the cars featured here if you fancy taking a chance.
