the road around the plant section is almost a triangle with more stalls in the middle,
so we made our way around the outside,
some of the plants for sale,
were huge like this yucca,
going to the other extreme a bonsai,
smaller still these lithops, or living stones as they are sometimes called,
80 baht each or 3 for 200 baht, so I bought 3,
garden ornaments,
including fish,
every time I pass a stall like this I am tempted to buy some orchids,
luckily we do not have a big enough garden for bedding plants,
but I do wish we had a garden big enough for these,
water lilies,
they seem to be in season,
out here at the moment,
then I spotted one of
these, a real rarity, a giant Amazon water lily, (Victoria
amazonica), notice the spines on the underside of the leaf to protect the
lily from vegetarian fish predation,
if you have ever wonder about where to buy a long necked giraffe, now you know!
such attention to detail, look at the eyelashes,
we then came a cross this cactus stall,
where some of the plants had fantastical flowers I believe it
is a type of Orbea, but I am not 100% sure,
there were a number of them for sale,
as well as lots of cacti,
like these,
I weakened and bought two,
as well as plants in pots,
there were also buds or pups for sale,
unlike the last time we were here there was only one or two insectivorous plants sellers here,
but there were so many orchid stalls,
and others for sale,
like these bromeliads,
next a coloured cactus stall,
with a number of large specimens,
most of these we have never seen before,
but these we have,
last year we had a great show from our amaryllis, this year just 2 flowers, lots of leaves though,
more cactus,
so I bought another 2, there goes another 180 baht!
hibiscus aplenty at this stall,
a bit of a strange one, it sold boxes of dried moss,
also we bought another
couple of air plants, out of interest, Tillandsia is a genus of
around 540 species of evergreen, perennial flowering plants in the family
Bromeliaceae, native to the forests, mountains and deserts of Central and South
America, the southern United States and the West Indies,
another temptation,
bulbs! I am always so tempted to buy a few of each, but alas a lack of space means no,
we started to make our way back to the car,
passing this bonsai stall,
with this nice specimen for sale,
a final look at some grasses and we were on our way, here is the web site for Chatuchak plant market, the link suggests Wednesdays and Thursdays are the best time to go, so I would take their advice if you are planning a trip,
on the way back I continued playing with the camera, I set the program for taking pictures through glass, you know what Diana says, boys + toys = me!
I have to say I thought the results were pretty good, this straight from the camera, no cropping or improving the picture in any way, especially considering we were travelling at a speed of 80 to 100 KPH,
back home and time to put the fish we bought into one of the aquariums,
all of the fish and shrimps came to just under 800 baht, the fish food for the big fish 80 a baht a bag,
I added some water from the aquarium to each bag,
to acclimatise the new arrivals,
the shrimps, or I should say yabbies we bought,
two red,
two blue,
one called dragon red and one white,
so in they went,
along with the bag of 50 tiger barbs,
then feet up and watch them all enjoy their new home, after our evening meal we watched TMN cable for the rest of the evening, then for us off to bed.
