Another One Of Those 'Good Luck' Stories,

I like so much,

this vase’s elderly owner had been given it as a present some time ago and had no idea of its value when he took it to Duke’s auction house in Dorchester, Dorset, luckily they did, it was believed to be a incense burner and was possibly used for ceremonial purposes during the Emperor Xuande's reign between 1425 and 1435, good news so far, but here is the bad news, the previous owner had fitted a metal fitting at the top, and a hole had been drilled through the bottom to attach a wooden base, even so the vase which was 15 and a half inches tall including the wooden base went for £550,000!

now here is the news the previous owner does not want to hear, Guy Schwinge, from Duke’s, said: 'it is tempting to speculate how many millions the vase would have fetched if it had not been damaged when it was converted to a table lamp',

experts believe that, without the damage, the item could have sold for up to eight times as much as it fetched, Chinese porcelain specialist Richard Peters, of London-based Richard Peters Antiques, said: 'if you believe it is old, and if had been in good condition, it would have been millions - possibly £3million or £4million', well the owner at least received some money from it, but a lesson to anyone else with a potential antique on their hands, leave it alone!
