I Had A Bit Of A Late Night,

or I should say early morning as I stayed up for the Jubilee concert,

but first thing in the morning Diana disappeared, it took me some time to work out she was giving some of the plants a haircut,

I thought she was upstairs,

I just hope the plants appreciate all of the attention they are getting,

in the early evening Steve and Laura called round,

Laura was a bit tired so 40 winks were called for, Steve thinks she might be going down with a cold, so we hope she has a speedy recovery,

after they left and watching some satellite television we settled down for the pop concert to mark the Queen of Great Britain's 60 year reign,

the Mall was packed,

there were 20,000 people in the inner area,

Prince Charles was there with out the Queen, She arrived later,

so many people,

then for me the show began, there were a couple of singers before Sir Cliff Richards,

but I did not have a clue who they were, by now Diana realised that there was not going to be any one singing songs she might have heard of, so lap top and into the bedroom she went, but for me, bring on the stars, I know all of the tunes from here on in!

Lang Lang played some of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue,

next on the ivories was Jools Holland, a great all round performer who was clearly enjoying himself,

things got a bit scary as Grace Jones took to the stage,

she sang and used a hoola hoop at the same time,

it reminded me of a phrase I some times use, 'I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous',

Annie Lennox was on next complete with angel wings,

Rolf Harris was next compare to take to the stage,

then the voice,

Tom Jones, say no more, great performance,

it was then Robbie Williams turn to woo the crowd,

with Mack the Knife, I had always thought of this song as having American roots, but it appears that the song started out in London, not Detroit, and to politicians more than street gangs, the character of Macheath, later to become Mack the Knife, first appeared in The Beggar's Opera by John Gay (1685-1732),

Now it's Sing, the official song written by Gary Barlow and Andrew Lloyd Webber,

sung by the 200 strong Commonwealth choir,

the crowd loving every minuet of it,

Shirley Bassey singing Diamonds Are Forever,

was followed by Kylie Mnogue dressed rather like a Pearly Queen,

 Renee Fleming,

singing Somewhere from West Side Story on the balcony,

the palace itself became the screen for images projected on it as the night progressed,

then Elton John took the stage,

and belted out a couple of numbers,

the scene from the far end of The Mall,

the next to delight all there was Stevie Wonder,

the back drop of the Palace suddenly went white,

as a huge double decker bus went across it!,

it then changed into a row of terraced houses,

it was totally mad,

as was the group Madness, great songs from them,

the Palace continued its role as a backdrop,

Peter Kaye dressed as a beefeater makes way for the finale,

Paul McCartney,

the end of his act is celebrated with a few fireworks,

then it is time for the Queen to take the stage,

a time for reflection,

Prince Charles makes a speech to His Mother,

who is clearly delighted,

at the speech and a few of the funny comments he made in it,

the Palace becomes a huge Union Jack,

as the Queen places the Jubilee diamond to light the last of some 4,200 beacons,

they were lit across the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, Commonwealth and Overseas UK Territories in celebration of The Queen's Diamond Jubilee, the first beacon was lit in Tonga with the last beacon being lit by Her Majesty The Queen tonight,

then let the fireworks display begin!

and what a display,

it was huge,

seen from the air,

the Palace is dwarfed by them,

I just wish we could have been there,

it was now 05.00 in the morning here in Thailand, what a great evening/morning, I just hope everyone enjoyed it as much as I did, as the fireworks finished, for me I was off to bed.
