If You Are Lucky Enough,

to live or be in Tokyo,

here is a photographic exhibition you might want to visit,

it looks at Japan’s landscape of textile traditions, from Kyo-yuzen and Echigo-jofu to Oshima-tsumugi and Benibana-zome, techniques and their corresponding geographies are the subject of the exhibition, all photographs by Kotaro Tanaka,

guiding us through the story is Masataka Hosoo, the 13th generation head of the Hosoo kimono house that has been family-owned since 1688, Hosoo spent 3 years traveling around Japan and taking stock of the current landscape, from over 5000 photographs taken on his journey, he selected few to be included in this exhibition, which is being hosted by Mikimoto in Ginza,

the Story of Japanese Textiles is free and on view through January 27, 2019 at Mikimoto headquarters on the 7th floor, so if you are interested in textiles or photography, not one to miss.
