Day 3 In Sunny Wales,

we were up early,

for our breakfast,

good morning to Steve and Kai,

English breakfasts all round,

we were soon on our way,

and it was another nice day,

then something we had not seen many times before,

a ford,

the footbridge nearby,

and this is what we were looking for a Sports Direct, just outside of Bangor, and we were successful, Diana now has a pair of waterproof over trousers, and hearing the name Bangor,

it reminded me of the song, crickey that was back in 1980!

back to the trip to Anglesey,

an island off the coast of the mainland,

we crossed the Menai Strait, in Welsh: Afon Menai, the river is a narrow stretch of shallow tidal water about 25 km (16 mi) long, which separates the island of Anglesey from the mainland of Wales,

we were heading for Llanfair,

I will never be able to pronounce the place sign by the side of the road,

we were going to follow a part of the Wales Coast Path,

and here we are,

the beach past the vegetation

yet another fine day for us,

we could not have planned it better,

pose time!

at this point the sand is on the other side of this tidal wetland,

I wandered about a bit,

but even with my hiking boots on I could not go too far, either boots off or wellies,

lots of sedge near the pathway,

in the distance our restaurant for the evening,

or it might be in that costal resort,

the walk took us up onto the sea wall,

pose time,

Steve had brought his big camera, I just had the pocket Lumix,

a sea of sedge,

we were now on top of the wall and started walking,

we had the sea to our left,

Steve was taking photographs of the lichen that was growing on the wooden handrails,

whilst I was captivated with the way that yellows gave way to gold and brown in the plants,

the girls had discovered that some of the blackberries were exceptionally sweet,

on the wall there were passing points, on each of them travellers had placed shells or flowers to make I guess what you would call a cairn,

on this one these rather attractive berries,

and speaking of berries,

this tree/bush has a bumper crop of them,

the sea wall ended, so down to the plants,

the good news was that there was a wooden walkway,

and then I saw the bush that the brightly coloured berries had come from,

I am not sure what they are called, but they are certainly colourful,

the legend on the footpath,

we were soon on the sand,

so naturally a few poses,

from Diana,

and Kai,

we almost had the beach to ourselves,

no one in sight to the left,

and very few to the right,

back on to the footpath,

I had found a feather,
so I thought I would add it to one of the piles of pebbles and flowers,

I wonder how long it will last?

the girls were back to blackberry picking,

as we made our way along the sea wall,

then down to the sand near where we came in,

back into Steve's car and we were on our way,

to Benllech beach,

we parked up,

and walked down,

first stop, ice cream,

looking to the left,

and right,

Steve trying to make Diana jump,

they are both mine!

we walked towards the end of the beach,

turned around and settled on one of the municipal tables,

for a coffee,

and a Welsh cake, whilst eating the girls had seen a couple with two enormous ice creams,

they tracked down the shop selling them,

it has to be said,

there was lots of ice cream in the cones,

then the inevitable happened, Mr. Gravity took hold of the situation!

'oh dear, how sad, never mind', said Sargent Major Williams,

the seagulls and crows made short work of it,

we made our way to the car,

and drove to Moelfre,

we parked up,

and headed to the beach,

stopping for a pose,

or two,

we had chosen a rocky part of the beach,

with the lifeboat station on it,

looking back towards the sand,

just a few boats in the bay,

a bronze statue of lifeboat hero Richard Evans (1905-2001),

the lifeboat station,

with Diana,

and well I just had to!

we walked past the station,

in the distance we saw these fishermen,

so we thought we would have a look,

looking back at the station,

not blackberries this time,

almost growing wild,

these fuchsias,

were really putting on a good show,

opposite us an island,

Steve day dreaming,

a few houses in the distance and that is it,

the offshore island had a strange feature in it,

a bit missing, I am not sure if the oblong hole is natural or manmade,

a pose,

one each,

whilst the girls were taking selfies, Steve and myself were watching the fishermen,

although I have to say I would prefer a small boat like this as opposed to shore fishing,

as I mentioned the girls were taking hundreds of photographs,

and I took the occasional one,

smile!

the girls watched the fishermen who it has to be said were catching a few fish, most of which were thrown back,

meanwhile Steve and myself were being watch by a gull,

we made our way back to the car,

and were soon headed for Red Wharf Bay, Pentraeth,

down to the car park,

none or very little sand here unless you go out a tad,

the tide out,

this is what we had come here for, The Boat House restaurant,

in the bay a few boats left high and dry,

inside the décor nicely done,

for starters prawn cocktail for Kai, fish cake for Steve,

fish cake for Diana, mussels for myself,

on to our mains, mussels for Kai, pork belly for Steve,

a spaghetti dish for Diana,

sizzling lamb for myself,

'Cheers!',

on to desserts and what a selection,

I am not sure what Steve chose,

but it looked good, for myself a gooseberry crunch, the girls did not have a dessert,

I rounded off the evening with a Jamaican coffee,

we had almost missed the sunset,

from memory the bill came to £75.00 per couple, which was pretty fair all considered, we drove back for a nightcap at the hotel before we were all off to bed, if you want to see our last day in Wales just hit the Older Posts and the bottom of the page.
