I Have Aways Thought Over The Past Few Years Councils Were Struggling For Cash,
not so in Leicestershire the County Council there has spent £6,000 fitting sat-nav to its fleet of mowers,
to stop their gardeners getting lost in the grass, Leicestershire resident Brian Rayner, vice-president of the national society of allotment and leisure gardeners, said: 'It's bonkers, it beggars belief, why spend all this money on these gadgets when you can see the grass grow with your own eyes? all it takes is for someone to look out of the window and they can see if grass needs cutting, you don't need a satnav to tell you that, they say the grass grew more last year, but I certainly didn't see that, it grew just like it always does, obviously if you leave a lawn or a playing field for weeks without cutting it then it is going to get out of hand but you don't need a satellite to tell you that'
council leader Mr Parsons last night defended the move, 'Last year we had some problems cutting verges so now we will know what has been cut or not,' he said, it is a system so the county can track what is happening and where the grass is going to be cut, it will tell the mowers where they need to go, it's essentially so the council can track where they have been, where they are going and where they need to go.'
I guess making a list of the grass that needs cutting and calling back every 3 weeks or so was to difficult? and who, how many and how much is being paid to the council staff who are monitoring and directing the mowers? the £6,000 is I am guessing just for fitting them, I wonder what the real all in costs will be? Ah! the joys of being a rate payer in Leicestershire!
