When I First Read This I Could Not Belive My Eyes!
due to overcrowding in UK prisons some criminals are let out early,
under end-of-custody licence (ECL) it appears that those let out early from jail have been paid £5.5 million compensation for the free prison board and lodging they missed by being released, now let me get this straight, they have been released early to go back to their families and loved ones and then we, the UK taxpayer has to pay for their board and lodging?
“Subsistence” payments have been made to thousands let out under Labour’s early release scheme, nearly 50,000 have been freed since the “emergency” programme was launched in June 2007 to tackle overcrowding, those serving up to four years are eligible to get out up to 18 days early, new figures show £3.11million in “subsistence” has been paid by the Department for Work and Pensions and £2.37million was handed out by prison governors,
last year it emerged lags freed under end-of-custody licence (ECL) committed three murders, two men convicted of terrorist offences got out, as did a number of sex offenders, even though they are meant to be banned from the scheme, ECL prisoners have committed nearly 200 other violent crimes,
the Ministry of Justice, which is headed by Jack Straw, pictured above last night defended the payments.
