This Time A Living 'Super Snake'
that is what has alarmed wildlife officials in East Lake Fish Camp in Kissimmee, Florida,
whilst several Burmese and African rock pythons have been found the discovery of a green anaconda has alarmed scientists who fear that inter-breeding between non-native species could produce a menacing “supersnake”, for a while ducks and a goose went missing in what locals thought were attacks by an alligator, it was only when an officer from the Osceola County Sheriff’s Department tried to force his horse to step across an open drain at the resort, and the horse refused to budge, that the true culprit was discovered, the officer dismounted and peered into the drain — and found himself face to face with a 3.9-metre (13ft) green anaconda,
green anacondas, which are usually found thousands of miles away in the Amazon River, are the world’s largest snakes, growing to more than nine metres, they constrict their prey, which has been known to include human beings, “It’s disturbing any time we find a non-native species out there,” said Scott Hardin, the exotic species co-ordinator for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, “With only one snake found, it’s my guess that it’s an individual that either got away or somebody turned it loose, but probably a while ago,'
Deborah Drum, from the South Florida Water Management District, said: “They are bigger and meaner than the Burmese python, it’s not good news.” at the East Lake resort, Mary-Ann Barrows, a manager, said of the anaconda find: “I heard he was big but I didn’t look, I’m not a snake person, I just wanted to know that there isn’t another one.”
well hopefully for the native wildlife I hope it is the only one, but I wonder if there are more out there?
