When I Saw This Sand Picture,
and the lone person beside it,
I immediately thought of a tune in the early 60's, Stranger on the shore, it was a hit topping the charts in the UK for 55 weeks, made famous by being the theme tune of a series of the same name, recorded by Acker Bilk and the Paramount Jazz Band, but back to the sand 'painting' Theo Shields waits until no one is around at Black Rock Sands in Porthmadog near his home in North Wales, then he starts work to race the tide, first he pegs out rope so he can work to the correct scale and has to climb the cliffs once he's finished to check it over from a distance, "It's very difficult to tell how you're doing from ground level," he says,
Theo added: "There's satisfaction in beating the tide and having that finished image there just long enough to take a photo, then nature comes along and reminds you exactly who's boss - and when it does it's like watching a massive Etch-A-Sketch being given a shake." what a talented young chap, I hope he goes far.
