I Am Possibly The Least Fashion Conscious Person I Know,

not so the trendy people Matehuala, a northeastern Mexican city, the latest fashion is taking the town, also nearby ones, to new levels in footwear, the trend started when customer known only as "Cesar of Huizache" had an odd request for shoemaker Dario Calderon: He showed him a cell-phone photo of a sequined cowboy boot with pointy toes so long, they curled up toward the knees, He wanted a pair, but with longer toes, a fashion statement was born, the next thing Calderon knew, it seemed like everyone wanted the bizarre, half-Aladdin, all-Vegas pointy boots, from little boys attending church ceremonies to teenagers at the discos, Calderon fashioned the elongated toes from plastic foam and charged 400 pesos ($34) for the extensions, the competition began charging 350 pesos ($30) per 15 centimeters (6 inches) of new toe,

there must be a reason for this fashion, and there is, 'at the beginning I didn't like them very much, but the girls wouldn't dance with you if you weren't wearing pointy boots,' said university student Pascual Escobedo, 20, his own boots covered with hot pink satin and glittery stars, you can also make your own, boys who couldn't afford that used garden hoses to make their own, when one added glittery butterflies, another made 5-foot-long toes and added multicolor glitter stripes, not to be out done, one added stars to the tips, others added flashing lights and disco balls, strutting them on the dance floor to attract the girls, like peacocks spreading their feathers, will I take up the fashion? I do not think so, it would make driving the motorbike a bit difficult - and the truck impossible!

Hi Stan & Diana, Great blog as ever ..

I am planning a short vacation to Thailand in the summer, and have been surfing the 'net, comparing prices for flights to BKK.

Am I right in thinking that all flights to BKK from London have gone up in price? Last time I flew to BKK (about 18 months ago) the prices seemed a lot lower than they are now.

Seems to be a couple of hundred pounds more expensive now, than previously. This seems to be across the board on all airlines. Some are even going above £1,000!

I suppose this is the price of fuel etc.

Dear Mocha Joe, sorry to have taken so long to reply, I have to say that the year chaep prices for tickets are going to be hard to find, two friends of ours who usualy travel via the Middle East and have a stop over there are now flying direct with EVA Air, the price they are paying in January is £800 each return, normaly by having a stop it is £5-600 but it appears that there are no seats at this price around Christmas or early in the New Year, all I can say is keep looking on the Internet, I hope you find something, does any one else have a site/agent they can recomend? best regards, Stan and Diana.

Hi Stan & Diana, Loving all the recent blog updates.

Your right about the Middle East airlines. Used to be £5-600 but now at least a couple of hundred pounds higher.

I found Thai Airways to be the most economical. Flights for a low at £680, and it is a direct flight with a comfortable airline.

I wonder if teh Thai tourist trade will be affected by the rising airfares?
