There Did Not Seem To Be,

anything that we found interesting, amusing or just plain weird in the news today,

so straight on with today's post, yes more painting, this is the custom paint pot I made for Diana from a milk carton, it has a built in handle,

 so unlike me,

using paint from the can, Diana has clean paint free hands when we are finished,

not much to complete the job now, as it is Sunday tomorrow we will leave any more painting till Monday, then once the fence is finished we only have to paint the window security grills, the outside wall lights, (not looking forward to that as it is too easy to drop one of the glasses), and a few other things, then feet up for the next few years as far as painting is concerned,

off to Big C, the one that was Carrefour in Central Road,

it has a beer garden we had not seen outside before,

and a small aquatic shop next door,

 attached to a foot spa,

naturally whilst there we just had to call into Swensen's,

I ordered a chocolate and strawberry ice cream with nuts special,

 Diana ordered a mango special,

and nice it looked too, going back to the dish I ordered it reminded me somewhat of a ice cream Mum or Dad would by me as a treat in the late 1950's, a Knickerbocker Glory, it is a very elaborate ice cream sundae that is served in a large tall glass, particularly in the United Kingdom, and contains ice cream, mixed fruit, chocolate or fruit syrups, cream, chopped nuts or hundreds and thousands and a wafer, it has no connection with nether garments,

the term was presumably inspired by Diedrich Knickerbocker, the mock-Dutch name invented by Washington Irving for the fictitious author of his History of New York, from memory ice cream bars were not exactly common in the UK then and more than a little expensive, I wonder if any of the ice cream parlours now in business still sell them?

we then swung by to say hello to Slim Jim, he had splashed out on two custom built work benches,

he really likes making things, so there will be no stopping him now,

we had missed his birthday last week, so a surprise present or two was in order,

Diana trying on the bow the present arrived in,

and Slim Jim a shirt, we chatted the afternoon away then home for our evening meal,

Diana had made a delicious beef stew, which we followed with some grapes, next we settled down to Admiral, a Russian film in of course Russian but with English subtitles, it tells the true story of Alexander Kolchak, his meteoric rise in power, his triangled love life and ultimately his death, being shot and his body being unceremoniously dumped in the Angara River,

in the film battle sequences are first rate with attention to detail on the First World War battleships so realistic, also the uniforms and costumes all looked just as I imagined they should have looked at the time, no cutting corners in this film, we both really enjoyed it, if you have watched Doctor Zhivago, the background of that film will help put the time frame of Admiral in context,

we rounded off the evening with another disc from the second series of L. A. Law, a great series for us, so many laughs, but also there is a serious side to the show as some of the cases do raise important questions, which is how it should be, then for us we were off to bed.
