Not That I Am A Fan Of It,

but I often see dinners asking for it,

Tabasco sauce, the recipe used to make this famed sauce has largely stayed unchanged since 1868 and consist of just three ingredients, distilled vinegar, red pepper, and salt, the salt is mined on Avery Island itself, which is not an island, so for a few more facts about the sauce with its Royal warrant from HM the Queen, have a look here, fascinating, photograph © Courtesy McIlhenny Company,

Thanks. Your post prompted me to find out about the history of Tabasco sauce. First, I always thought that "Tabasco" was named after the state in Mexico. Apparently not. Second, I always assumed that Royal Warrants were limited to products from the British Empire. Again, wrong.

I would add that Avery Island is very much an island insofar as you would be unable to get to it from any direction without a bit of swimming... or at least wading for a fair distance... as it is surrounded by the bayou (or as you would probably call it, a swamp). Also, did you notice on the island satellite images the dozen or so mansions spread around the island? I would guess the wealthy descendants of the McIlhenny family all settled there.

Dear Jil, what I found amazing was that all of this was made from just 3 ingredients, but then every beer in the world has just 4 primary ingredients, water, hops, yeast and grain, if the guys at 52 Brews are to be believed, https://52brews.com/what-are-the-main-ingredients-in-beer best regards, Stan and Diana.
