but more of that later,
blog posted and I was on my way to visit Duncan, but this time in Darent Valley Hospital, I had called the nursing home before I left and was told he was admitted 2 days ago, he was in fine sprits but a bit at a loss as he was in a private room, with no television, we chatted away as he munched into strawberries, salt & vinegar crisps and Kit-Kats that I had brought along with me, nothing wrong with his appetite! I had a chat with his doctor who was there at the time, of course she could not tell me much other he was suffering from a extremely low hemoglobin level, he had a blood transfusion on arrival but not much else, I am not a member of the family, so the doctor had to be very guarded in what she could say, no indication as to whether he will be here next week or at the nursing home, so a call before I leave again,
after saying our farewells I made a move for home, in the late afternoon I spent some time in the garden, taking in the rays, Diana had left me a kebab to heat up for my evening meal, so I popped the bowl covered with clingfilm into the microwave, after 3 minutes I took it out and started to peel back the clingfilm,
when a stream of super heated steam scalded my finger, what is it with me? anything to do with technology, electrics or the kitchen always goes mustang,
I settled down for my sherry and evening read,
kebab, with salad and flame baked flat breads for my evening meal,
'Cheers!',
then feet up for a film that I watched a few times before Valkyrie a film staring Tom Criuse about the attempt to kill Hitler, as it turn out the film was quite close the the actual events but did not mention some of the other attempts leading up to it, as an aside the right to use key locations in Germany was nearly banned for the film, the cult known as the Church of Scientology, of which Tom Cruise is a high profile member is illegal in Germany, the fact that he was to star in the film outraged the federal government which initially threatened that it would refuse the right to film at some of the key surviving locations in Berlin, but then relented, keeping to a WWII theme my next film was,
Enemy At The Gates, essentially a true story of the battle of wits between a Russian and a German sniper, set against the battle for Stalingrad, the two protagonists being the Russian, Vassili Zaitsev, and his German counterpart, Major Konig, but whilst it makes for a good film the Major may not have been there, although Vassili did know the Germans had sent in a 'super sniper' as one of his comrades Morozov was killed and Sheykin wounded, both considered to be experienced, it is still not clear if Major Konig was actually sent, a great film if only for the fact it shows how bloody the battle for Stalingrad must have been, as it finished Diana arrived home so feet up for a coffee and a It Ain't Half Hot Mum from our DVD box set, after which she was off to bed, I watched a Bangers & Cash before I too was off to bed.
