I Did Not Know
where the word "Slush" as in slush fund came from,
until I read this article about the Royal Navy, it is bit of a long read but about half way through it the writer mentions that the diet of able seamen consisted of mainly biscuits and salt meat, the meat was so hard it could be carved, well when boiled it produced a oily scum on the surface of the water that was called "slush" which the cooks sold to the tallow merchants who supplied soap and candle manufacturers, relying on this 'slush fund' to supplement their meagre wages, so now I know!
