I still have fond memories of days spent at Chatham Dockyards in the mid 1950's for Navy Days,
it is HMS Dragon, Yesterday, crowds gathered to welcome the 7,500-tonne Type-45 destroyer as she sailed into Portsmouth, Armed Forces Minister Nick Harvey said: 'Dragon is the fourth of a class of six ships which together will form a formidable fleet and will play an important part in allowing the Royal Navy to protect our interests around the world.' powerfully armed she will be able to fend off multiple and simultaneous attacks at supersonic speeds and her highly sophisticated Sea Viper missile defence system is designed to smash even the most vicious aircraft and anti-ship missiles, for the technical,
Class: Type-45 destroyer
Weight: 7,500 tonnes
Length: 152.4metres
Beam: 21.2metres
Top speed: 27 knots
Range: 7,000 nautical miles
Crew: 190
the Type 45s are the largest and most powerful air defence destroyers ever built for the Royal Navy and all will be based in Portsmouth, but as with most weapons of war or defence I hope she will never be used in anger.
