03.00 AM in the morning to be precise,
as I woke I felt a little thirsty, I glanced at the time 03.00 on the dot, I swung my legs out of bed, the floor was wet, my first thought was a tap had been left on in the bathroom, but this is what I saw as I went into the living room, about 1.5 inches of water over the floor, next thought, one of the aquariums had sprung a leak, but they were fine, then I noticed water streaming under the front door, I opened it and a wave of water rushed in, it had been raining,
a quick look out of our bedroom window confirmed our worse fears for the first time in 12 or more years of being here our home was going to be flooded,
so we tried to push towels under the front door, with little success,
if anything the water seemed to have risen higher,
the view from our front window, looking towards the street,
our front garden, not a place to sit at the moment!
the water stayed at this level for a couple of hours, then in the space of 10 minuets all of the water was gone! it was as if some one had pulled the plug some where and made the water disappear,
the front garden back to normal,
just as it should be, just a bit wetter,
we did not have a squeegee so off to Friendship to buy one, problem being they did not open till 07.30, but the car park was flooded, it was now only 06.30,
so back to Friendship at 07.30, the water in Pattaya Tai getting deeper all of the time,
some brave people drove their bikes, but not for much longer, the nearer to Second Road you went the deeper the water became,
diesel cars and taxis found the going a little easier, so upstairs to buy our squeezes, only to be told the food hall is open, but the upstairs kitchen and household section does not open till 10.30,
so off to Tesco, it opens we found out at 06.00, we should have gone there in the first place! truth is we avoid shopping there as it takes so long to be checked out as there are some times too many customers waiting to pay for their goods,
so one squeeze each and operation mop up begins,
more than a few hours later and our efforts had made the house dry, then it started raining again,
it rain again heavily,
the water was creeping up the drive again towards the house,
eventually it stopped at this level,
just at the hub of the truck, I was thankful we had the truck and not a car, for the rest of the day where ever we went cars had the floor mats on the top of the cars drying them out,
a view along the street,
some of the residents at the cross roads,
our next door neighbor called over to see how we were getting, luckily the water came in to depth of just a half an inch or so after an hour or so, then the same thing happen like this morning, in a matter of 10 - 15 minutes all of the water magically disappeared, again just like someone pulling a plug, so mop up number two began, but luckily nowhere as much water as before, I had cut a couple of pieces of Perspex, about 6" tall and taped them in the door frames so a lot of the water was kept out, by now we had enough, we had not eaten all day so we decided to go out for a meal,
also as the floor was now dry I made a better job of tapeing the perspex to the door frame, more rain was forecast for the evening and tomorrow,
so off to the Punch & Judy for a evening meal,
which luckily had not been affected by the flooding,
when we arrived Mark was waiting for Alex and his family to arrive, so we joined then for the meal, Alex junior, George and Alex,
also there was Alex's parents Rose and Alex senior,
I opted for the 199 baht burger and a pint,
whilst Diana and every body else had the Sunday roast, after that it was home and feet up to watch some more of MI 5,
this time episode #8.2, when an industrial accident put a liquid natural gas plant out of commission for six months, the UK must quickly arrange for an alternate source of supply or face an energy crisis that will cripple British industry and the economy, but who to buy from? then for it was time fore bed after a exhausting day from 3 in the morning till early evening nothing but mopping up water, a day we do not want to do again!
