Future bright with birth of baby Ferrari

Staying with FERRARI they are developing a new, smaller sports car, Ferrari chief executive Amedeo Felisa revealed that the world-famous firm should have the new car ready by 2012. He said that the new sports car would be about six inches shorter than the F430 CoupĂ© and would be part of the firm’s strategy of reducing C02 and boosting fuel economy. But Mr Felisa said the new model would not be too small and added: “We will not be building a Lotus Elise-sized Ferrari. Our customers believe dimensions mean value.” Ferrari have already shown a clay model of what a smaller lightweight sports car of the future – called the Millechili – could look like, at their 60th anniversary celebrations. Mr Felisa said that a slightly smaller, lighter model would help Ferrari achieve their target of reducing fuel consumption and C02 emissions by 40 per cent by 2012. He added that the California was the first step in the firm’s plans to slash C02 emissions and increase fuel economy. But he said it was vitally important that any new model was a “real Ferrari” both in terms of performance and offering emotional driving and exclusivity. Despite the economic situation, they would not sell a model for less than £130,000 and without 450bhp.
