Mark called round for a cup of tea and a chat,
we were both bidding on some items on EBay, then all too soon it was time to head off to the Friday night market,
as the Hibiscus put on a good show I took a couple of pictures of them,
although this one was past its best as it flowered yesterday,
we were a bit early so there were not many people about,
it had been raining earlier, but thankfully stopped before we left for the market,
I stopped off for some cashew nuts again, trouble is we keep eating them as we watch the television and almost run out before Diana can cook some in a chicken curry,
lots of other nibbles to try as well,
this week a clothes stall opposite the bar, also a group selling creams to make you beautiful, I should have asked if they have any to make me a handsome man!
not many customers at the bar this week,
Diana returned with some mango's for later,
a close up of the cosmetic stall,
a tourist poses with one of the assistants,
one of the assistants, all smiles, here is a question what is the longest word in the English language? I have just used it, it is smiles, why? because there is a mile between the two s's! boom-boom!
we also called over to say hello to Sai Jai, she makes knitwear and sells her goods in the market,
the lady that owns the bar we sit in very kindly gave us a brand new umbrella as it looked like it was going to rain, strange thing is that it is square rather than round, not that I am complaining, it is just that I had never noticed a square one before,
whilst Mark was here in the afternoon we talked about early ironclads, the 4 in question were the La Gloire which was the first ever seagoing ironclad battleship, hastily put to sea to beat HMS Warrior's claim to be the first sea going ironclad, we also chatted about the Monitor and Merrimack, both involved in the American Civil War, although the Merrimack was subsequently renamed the Virginia, all of this brought about by the DVD Ironclads,
in the evening we watched Land of the Lost, we already had watched it on a normal DVD, but it looked so good I chanced buying it on BluRay, the difference was so noticeable, it had made the transition well, much sharper and stronger colours, the story is that palaeontologist Rick Marshall takes Will and Holly into a new world of danger, dinosaurs and big bug-eyed lizard people while trying to find their way back home and, too, save the universe and in doing so saving his reputation, great kids adventure, which is why I like it so much, nothing to tax the brain!
then to a real classic, M, not every ones taste in films, but one that I liked when I watched part of it many years ago, so a great find for me to see it available in BluRay, the film directed by Fritz Lang is about a child killer,
the killer is played by Peter Lorre, who was 'discovered' in this film, he went on to become an International star, in the film he is hounded by the police and the underworld, both of whom he thinks he has given the slip to,
but soon he realises, the net is closing in on him,
he is accused by a blind beggar,
and his fate is sealed,
maddnes and self loathing over takes him, for me a great movie, the soundtrack is limited and many scenes have been added to the original with no sound at all, then for me it was off to bed, Diana had made that decision after 10 minuets of a black and white film with no subtitles!
