Early In The Morning,

we were at the veterinary surgery,

for Mariana's injections, the good news was that today was the completion of her course of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory injections, so back to the normal routine tomorrow, she is much improved, eating well and playing like she normally does, we had a quiet day, playing with the kittens and catching up on some paperwork and other bits and pieces, after our evening meal it was time for a treat, Diana had bought an advent calendar from Marks and Spencer which is located in Central Festival, chocolate treats, I had to fight for my half of the first one!

the time is January 20, 1942, the place is a suburb of Berlin at a villa by a lake known as Wannsee, at the meeting known as the Wannsee Conference, at the meeting fifteen high-ranking Nazi party and German government leaders, the agenda, the Final Solution of the Jews, the film is called Conspiracy, it has to be said that the fact is that the ‘program’ had already started, on March 22, 1933, a few weeks after Adolf Hitler had been appointed Reich Chancellor, Dachau, a concentration camp for political prisoners had been opened, then in November 1938, the prohibitive measures against German Jews that had been instituted since Hitler came to power took a violent and deadly turn during “Kristallnacht” (“Crystal Night” or “Night of Broken Glass”), on the evening of November 9, synagogues in Germany and Austria were burned and Jewish homes, schools and businesses were vandalised, over 30,000 Jews were arrested and dispatched to Dachau and the Buchenwald and Sachsenhausen concentration camps, nearly 11,000 Jews ended up in Dachau, the point being that although the program was already running cooperation was needed by key non-SS government leaders, including the secretaries of the Foreign Ministry and Justice, whose views at the meeting were changed and the program ‘officially’ went ahead, a chilling but a must watch film, if you have the chance to view it, do so, and see how the views of Wilhelm Stuckart perhaps the most opposed to the plan change as the meeting went on,

to round off the evening Ripper Street series 4, it naturally takes off as series three finished, the story line in the two episodes we watched made for compelling viewing, we were only going to watch the first episode but it was so good we watched two of them, and with that we were off to bed.
