Pattaya In The Day Time,

and a few new beer bars in Walking Street, just a quick glimpse at the temperature before we leave, this is in the shade just outside our front door,
first stop some lychee's for later this evening,
lots of peeled fruit as well, so much to chose from,
and on the next stall, fancy goods,
all of theses stalls are on Pattaya Tai, behind the stalls are regular shops, this is looking towards Friendship,
and towards Second Road,
we have now driven down to Beach Road and are heading towards Walking Street,
on the far right is The Beer Garden over looking the sea,
the new sign and giant TV,
we are now at the beginning of Walking Street going in the opposite direction we normally walk,
a few hundred meters along on the left is a new development, some say shops, disco or hotel, well I had a sneak look,
it appears to be open air, so,
it's got to be more beer bars!
6 or 7 on the left and the same on the right, it sort of makes sense, Pattaya although built on young men's pay packets wants to clean up it's image, the way I think it will go is that eventually all beer bars, go-go's, karaokes etc will be in one area, Walking Street, all other areas will be sanitized and cleared out making way for better class tourist to walk around other parts of the city and not have Pattaya's "history" pushed in your face, well that's my 2p's worth!
further on towards Sisterz,
and then Champions,
Polo's and the sign pointing towards Coyotes,
in the evenings this is where we normally get of the motorcycle taxi's when we come to town,
looking towards Walking Street,
past the place where a lot of middle Eastern gentlemen smoke hubble-bubble pipes,
and now looking towards Soi Blues Factory,
the pizza restaurant where Diana buys her pizza on the way home,
Coyote's still closed, but on the web it was stated it should have been opened by now,
nearly at soi Blues Factory,
and the entrance to it, Goodfellas put these bits of perspex in to stop bikes from going down the soi, also they repaved the intire soi and put in underground blue lights, in a few months only half worked, last month they all stopped working, last week from their steps to Walking Street the lights had been removed and the holes in the floor that were left were filled with concrete, like so many things out here it starts well and then runs out of funds for maintenance,
before going into Soi Blues Factory if you turn left at the far end is where the soup stall is,
then it was on the bike to do some more shopping at Friendship,
on the way home the skies looked ominous so time to stop and put on our plastic macks,
and it was a good job we did! not a minuet later and the skies opened up, so home for a cup of tea and watch a movie or two!

Is Maureen's bar still in Walking Street?

PattayaStan said...

Dear Anonymous, unfortunately Maureen's landlord refused to renew the lease, so on last New Years eve she had to move out of the bar, it appears that the landlords daughter wanted the bar as she could see it was always busy, she forgot that the reason it was so busy Maureen and Nick were on first name terms with all of their customers, who came back every time they returned to Thailand, also what ever the customers were drinking, say one of the Dutch groups they would get in their favorite drink for them, I walk past the bar when ever I am in Pattaya, now normally 0-2 customers at about 8 in the evening then the same at about 11 when I go into Champions, even when a full buffet was put on there were only 3 guys sitting there, the bar must be hemorrhaging money fast, pity the owner did not leave things alone, and collect the rent for the next few years, but I guess greed got the better of them, Maureen has taken a few months off, but has not made any decision wither to open another bar again yet, just chilling out! best regards, Stan and Diana.

Hi Stan & Diana,

Sorry to hear about "Maureen's" Bar. I think you 'hit the nail on the head', when you say it was a busy bar because Maureen and Nick were on first name terms with all of their customers, who came back every time they returned to Thailand.

Unfortunately, Thai greed in business seems to far outweigh basic business logic. An old and familiar story, I'm sure.

Fair play to Nick & Maureen for having a break for a while, and hopefully another bar or business venture will follow when the time is right for them.

Keep us posted!

Dear Anonymous, will do, it just so happened that we called in to see Nick and Maureen yesterday, they are still chilling out and having a great time, best regards, Stan and Diana.

Thanks Stan. Saw your recent blog and the pictures of N & M. Both looking well.

In the absence of 'Maureen's' Bar, can you recommend any other good Beer Bars in Walking Street? 'Top Ten Bar' was always pretty lively, with some nice ladies - Is it still a decent Bar, or has fallen away a bit?

Cheers!

Dear Anonymous, the only other beer bar I have had a drink in is Gold Star Bar, it is on the corner of Soi Diamond and Walking Street, it is owned by a Thai gentleman called Dang, but he is seldom there in the evenings but sometimes calls in during the afternoon, if you are in to sports he normally shows all of the big games, generaly the music is not to loud and he has a few plesant waitresses, best regards, Stan and Diana.
