We Popped In To Champions Travel

as we wanted to hire a mini bus to take us for tomorrows meal, it is located at the beach end of Soi Post Office, so far buying tickets etcetera has been painless as they do speak good English there,
then to Friendship to pick up the wine, during the day we watched some television on cable from Sophon,
but later watched a DVD about America's first serial killer, H. H. Holmes, whose real name was Herman M. Mudgett, he was born in 1860 in Gilmanton, New Hampshire, after a troubled childhood in 1879, he joined the medical school of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, while enrolled, he stole bodies from the school laboratory, disfiguring the corpses and claiming the unlucky soul had been accidentally killed, conveniently, Holmes had already takes out insurance policies on these “family members" and he would collect on them as soon as their bodies were discovered, his hopes of becoming a doctor were soon dashed when he was expelled at 24 from the university after he was discovered stealing cadavers,

in 1887 H. H. Holmes began working as an assistant at a local drug store, Mrs. Dr. Holden, who ran the drug store at 63rd and Wallace, could not handle the trade any longer and thus needed assistance, it was not long before Holmes seemed to be more the manager of the store and less the prescription clerk, in 1887, Mrs. Dr. Holden vanished without a trace, in short time after, Holmes announced that he had purchased the store from the widow, just prior to her “moving out west.”

he bought land opposite and began building his house, it was an imposing structure of three stories and a basement with false battlements and wooden bay windows that were covered with sheet iron, many times the workforce would be fired - so that no one except Holmes knew the layout of the building that he designed, there were over 60 rooms in the structure and 51 doors that were cut oddly into various walls, and his favorite room- the basement, with it’s dissection table, surgical tools and implements, not to mention it's acid bath and a furnace, meant to look like one used for glass making, but I think you can guess it's real purpose! it was a terrible story to watch, Holmes was completely devoid of any feelings for his victims, watch it if you dare!
then we went to the Gossip Cafe just on the corner by the roundabout near Tuc Com,
we were the only customers there, although two more arrived later, I hope it does not go the same way as the restaurant we used to go to on Walking Street, the Bier Kitchen, that has now closed it's doors for the last time, I had the 199 baht special, choice of three soups, about 15 breaded pork dishes and five desserts, I went for the onion soup to start,
Diana decided on a Thai dish,
we sat in this rustic like outbuilding, very romantic, a nice touch was that the waiter brought out a lighted mosquito repeller,
although it looks small there was a huge amount of food, as always here I could not finish it and that was with Diana helping me to eat some of the pork,
followed by a vanilla ice cream, for 199 baht excellent value for money,
the outside of the Gossip Cafe,
after we returned home Joe called in for a glass of wine and a chat,
although a bit late it was time to give him his birthday present,
naturally well secured with tape!
I have mentioned before that I collect stamps, well knowing that Joe likes all things magical whilst I was looking for stamps on the net I found this first day cover for magicians, so happy birthday Joe!
then feet up to watch Octopussy, a fake Fabergé egg and a fellow agent's death leads James Bond to uncovering an international jewel smuggling operation, headed by the mysterious Octopussy, featured in the film is the deadly blue ringed octopus, though in real life a lot smaller than the one on the film, it is however quite deadly, just one bite can kill in under an hour, there is no antidote for the poison in its saliva, so if you are bitten you have just enough time to make a will before you die, unless you are given hours of heart massage and artificial respiration until the poison has worked its way out of the system, then off to bed.
