When I Think Of CompainesThat We Both Use,

on a daily basis,

these two spring to mind, huge multinational companies, that have the most stringent safety and security measures to prevent them from being scammed in the world, wrong! Google got scammed for $23 million,

and worse still Facebook got taken for $99 million! talk about let your guard down, here is how it happened, they were victims of fraud attacks by Evaldas Rimasauskas who used business emails to trick employees and siphoned over $100 million into several bank accounts, according to the indictment, Rimasauskas registered and incorporated a Latvian company with the same name as the Asian computer hardware manufacturer Quanta Computer Inc as reported by Bloomberg, and also opened multiple accounts at banks from Cyprus, Lithuania, Hungary, Slovakia, and Latvia to receive the fraudulent payments, six days ago DoJ release states that he "caused forged invoices, contracts, and letters that falsely appeared to have been executed and signed by executives and agents of the Victim Companies, and which bore false corporate stamps embossed with the Victim Companies’ names, to be submitted to banks in support of the large volume of funds that were fraudulently transmitted via wire transfer." it begs the question is these huge companies with arguably the best security systems in the world get scammed what chance has Joe Public got not to be scammed? for the full story have a look here at Bleeping Computer, as an aside, BleepingComputer reached out to Google and Facebook for more details but did not receive an answer prior to publication, but there is now an update,

Update March 20, 17:46 EDT: A spokesperson confirmed that Google was targeted by Rimasauskas' BEC fraud attacks:

We detected this fraud and promptly alerted the authorities. We recouped the funds and we're pleased this matter is resolved.

Hello Stan and Diana. Long time lurker. Why did you leave Thai?

Dear Anonymous, we do not normally answer Anonymous comments but as with any rule there are exceptions! there were a number of small things that lead to our decision to leave but the biggest was health care, good as it is, the health care in Thailand is expensive, especially if you should have a major healthcare problem, we both have top level health care insurance, and it was this that was going up to levels that it was not economic for us to pay, bearing in mind that I have paid for the National health service all of my life in the UK (as well as all UK taxes), even whist in Thailand and Diana has contributed £800 for her first year of health care to the UK government as part of her visa application, so we are not health care tourists! far from it as all of our minor aliments we have paid for in Thailand with no cost to the British health service, we decided it made economic sense to move back to the UK, and as a bonus on the three trips back to the UK that Diana made with myself we both agreed we liked the UK as a permanent place to live. I hope this answers your question, best regards Stan and Diana.
