Another Start On The Trains,

firstly many thanks to Phil for bring some over for me,
I have had a play with the one at the top of this picture 72000,
the others will have to wait for next week,
a slightly better view of the train,
chugging along,
it is a model of a 4 - 6 - 2 standard class 6MT a Clan class 'Clan Buchanan' 72000 it was treated to a special ceremony at Glasgow Central Station on 15th January 1952 whereby the Lord Provost unveiled its nameplates, later all of the Clan class were scrapped, there were no survivors,
after playing trains and losing all sense of time it was downstairs for Diana's roast dinner, roast chicken, potatoes, onions, Brussel sprouts and Paxo stuffing,
Diana was not so keen on the sprouts, but for me they were perfect,
then time for feet up and watch a few DVD's, first Hellboy 2, if you did not like Hellboy 1 then you will defiantly not like Hellboy 2, obvious really, but for us total over the top adventure and mayhem!
Night Of The Demon, an old film that we had seen before, but I wanted to watch it again, sinister, moody and a few bits to make you jump, the creature is to put it mildly a bit of a let down but the surrounding story is in my book really good, the garden party that goes wrong for instance, a freak summer storm or was it conjured up?
then to another one of my favorite presenters, Sir David Attenborough, he looks back at the time of Darwin in The Tree Of Life, also some of Sir Davids earlier adventures are looked at in this documentary, absolutely fascinating stuff,
but I do have one complaint with the BBC and a few other companies that I have purchased original DVD's from, my HD player shows that it will show the film in HD as it up scales the film, then a few moments later a message appears showing that the output for this product has been restricted to 576 lines, why is this? I have no idea, but I suspect that HD or near it is already on the DVD, but the output is limited so that if you want HD or Blu-Ray I guess you have to buy the HD or Blu-Ray version of it even though it or near to it is on the DVD already, any comments any one with a HD player, also has anyone seen this on a Blu-Ray player?
but back to Sir David, a thoroughly watchable and enjoyable DVD, we watched half of it, by then it was after 2 in the morning so off to bed.

I am guessing that you are using an analog output from your HD player as 576 lines is the PAL analog limit. If you use an HDMI cable you should see an improvement assuming your TV is 1080P Digital capable.

The new camera is giving much better pictures. The roast dinner looks really good.

When are you going to get some decent GWR engines for the railway?

Take care and continue living the dream.

Bob

Dear Bob, all the cables are correct, on normal DVD disc's where the content has not been restricted we get full HD, it is a restriction on the disc that stops the machine from playing what is there, if you look at today’s post Paramount have reduced their output from the BBC's poor 576 to a miserable 480, the point is all of the information is on the disc, even as we have found out, very old ones, all the information is on them in HD or near, it is just some companies will not let you watch it, you have to buy their HD or Blu-Ray disc.
Good news that the pictures look better, they certainly seem it when looking on the computer, I have stuck to BR as that was the area I come from, but to celebrate the 175th anniversary of the Great Western Railway (1835-2010), Hornby has announced a exquisitely detailed limited edition model, the Castle Class Swindon 7037 00 Gauge model will be available in early 2010, so you never know I might pick one up when I am back! best regards, Stan and Diana.
