If You Think Libraries Are Just For Reading Books In,

think again!

above is the Real Gabinete Português de Leitura, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the library is just one of the many that features in a book titled, The World’s Most Beautiful Libraries, Portuguese photographer Massimo Listri has spent decades traversing the globe to document the spectacular architecture, sculptural elements, and furnishings of historic libraries, His new book includes views inside such rarefied locations as the Klosterbibliothek Metten, Metten, Germany and the Bibliothèque Sainte-Geneviève, Paris, France, Listri also includes descriptions and histories of each library, and below I have posted just a few of the photographs he took that appear in the book,

 Klosterbibliothek Metten, Metten, Germany,

 Bibliothèque Sainte-Geneviève, Paris, France,

Biblioteca do Convento de Mafra, Mafra, Portugal,

 Stiftsbibliothek Admont, Admont, Austria,

 Biblioteca Joanina, Coimbria, Portugal,

Stiftsbibliothek Sankt Gallen, St. Gallen, Switzerland,

 Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana, Rome, Italy,

 Strahovská Knihovna, Prague, Czech Republic,

and the book itself, the 560-page tome is published by TASCHEN and available on Amazon and the TASCHEN website,

above one of the opened pages from the book, stunning buildings all of the photographs were taken by Massimo Listri, and no I am not on commision! I just think what a beautiful book it is to own.
