Squirrels Seem To Fall Into Two Categories, Cute,

or long haired tree rats with good PR,

whichever group you fall into you might have missed National Squirrel Appreciation Day, which was started by Christy Hargrove from Asheville, North Carolina, who created Squirrel Appreciation Day on January 21, 2001, and is celebrated on that day every year, as it happens vermin though they are,

we still find them cute enough to feed them, if the tree rats interest you, here are a few facts about them, including the fact that the Ohio General Assembly demanded that citizens not just pay their regular taxes, but add a few squirrel carcasses on top, according to the Ohio History Connection, taxpayers had to submit a minimum of 10 squirrel scalps to the town clerk each year, Tennessee had similar laws, though that state would let people pay in dead crows if they couldn't rustle up enough squirrels, of course that was in 1807, but it is an interesting read about them, as an aside if you are worried about missing a National Day in America here is a link to 1,500 National Days, where if you look you will not miss celebrating National Shower with a Friend Day in February, I kid you not!
