so we were out in the car,
a quick selfie,
and we were soon driving through Croydon,
to Carshalton, for a afternoon cream tea, but first as we were a tad early,
we had a look at one of the towns features,
a river/canal that runs through the park,
it is a made man section,
that gives a home to ducks, but surprisingly no fish,
the far end of the canal,
naturally we had to stop for a few photographs,
well I had to have one of myself,
I had only brought the small pocket camera with us today,
a quick pose from Diana,
another one from myself,
and one from the ducks,
as we walked towards the town,
there was a nice waterfall part way along the canal,
as we were early we walked into town,
having a look at some of the local shops, we also called into the towns post office, to send a small package back to China, but shock, horror! the post master there said that no post can be sent to or received from China! I mention that the package only arrived yesterday, to which he replied, 'Well it should not have done!' so that was that,
moving on we made our way to the ponds,
the water absolutely crystal clear,
but again, not a single fish to be seen,
but there were a few seagulls on the far side of the pond,
a quick pose by the first pond,
in the distance a weir,
with water flowing from the pond next door,
we walked to the bridge separating the two ponds and made our way over it,
in the distance,
a rather imposing building,
we retraced our steps, past the church,
and gatehouse,
at the front of the Grove park, as it happens the River Wandle runs through the town, and also underneath Croydon,
by now we were hungry,
and this is where we were heading,
we both ordered different teas,
and it was real tea, remember to use the tea strainers when you pour!
'Cheers!',
we ordered the afternoon cream tea, but remember if you want to have this to order it the day before,
on to our feast, it was perfect,
on the bottom layer sandwich fingers sans crust,
the next layer, real Cornish cream to go with scones, and these were the best of many we have tried, fresh, hot and firm, in a few tearooms we have visited the scones just crumble in your hands, making them difficult to top with cream and jam, but not these, they were just perfect,
on to the top layer,
a selection of cakes, it was all so nice and well worth the visit, the staff took such good care of us, so if you are in the area this is one tearoom you really must try and pop into, the afternoon tea with all of the cakes and sandwiches was £20 per person, to book a full afternoon tea telephone the day before with a 50% deposit, we were both full to bursting when we left, well done Dotty's Tearoom!
we drove back home and found that the new television package we had subscribed to the day before, one that gives us Sky films in HD, rather than upload itself had stopped us watching all programs, just my luck! so we called BT who were helpful, it was all down to me, I should have uploaded to my telephone some sort of application, well I did not understand any of that, but Diana did, and by the time that we were ready for our evening meal all was well,
so a sherry and a read,
and a 'Cheers!', with the wine,
for tonight Diana had made herself a curry with rice,
and for myself a lamb shank with potatoes,
and for dessert? an Eton mess, what a great way to round off a perfect day!
for our evening viewing we watched Elysium, which was excellent, so full of special effects it almost made your head spin, I am only making one post today, why? I slept in! in a complete tizz-was I set the alarm for Diana, then forgot to set mine, so I woke up a tad later than I normally do, normal service will be resumed tomorrow! and with that back to last night, and we were off to bed.
