Cornwall County Council took great exception to Jayne Bailey tiding up a council eyesore that it had left in total neglect for years, a pile of stones and weeds were all that could be seen until Jayne took plants from her own garden and renovated the plot, some of the local children had taken to removing the cobblestones to play with because it was in such a dilapidated condition,
after Jayne had tidy the plot, above, turning a crumbling eyesore into a bright display that won praise from some of her neighbours, the council sent her a letter, 'I have been told I have 28 days to replace it or they will come out and do the work and send me the bill,' said Mrs Bailey, who is in her 50s, 'They also threatened that they would go to the police and report me for criminal damage,' so take out the nice plants and put the weeds back?
'the centre-piece is a eucalyptus with other plants such as jasmine, buddleia and fuchsias, which were all planted on a budget and designed to fill that space over the coming years with minimal maintenance.' many of Mrs Bailey's neighbours in Bodmin have welcomed the new greenery,
Naomi Luke said: 'It looks a lot nicer, it was disgusting before, in fact it was a hazard, now it is somewhere everyone can enjoy and looks pretty.' Mrs Bailey added: 'The council is more than happy for areas to remain an eyesore but they cannot even carry out basic repairs that have been high on the residents' list for many years.'
in a typical council response, it is a mess, but it's our mess! how sad that the council did not look after it themselves, but hounded a public spirited citizen with the threat of a police record, pathetic!

Outside Bristol Zoo is the car park, with spaces for 150 cars and 8 coaches. It has been manned 6 days a week for 23 years by the same charming and very polite car park attendant with the ticket machine. The charges are £1. per car and £5. per coach.
On Monday 1 June, he did not turn up for work. Bristol Zoo management phoned Bristol City Council to ask them to send a replacement parking attendant.
The Council said "That car park is your responsibility." The Zoo said "The attendant was employed by the City Council... wasn't he?" The Council said "What attendant?"
Gone missing from his home is a man who has been taking daily the car park fees amounting to about £400. per day for the last 23 years...!
That's £125k per year...not taxed. Genius!
