A Walk Before Lunch,

so glad rags on,

and we were off,

past the snail mail box,

and this is where we were going, the weekly farmers market, through the gates that stop cars from entering from this end of the park,

we started walking up the slight hill,

on the left the wild part of a newly planted area starting to look nice,

to the right,

the area around this tree looking so yellow, I think that they were miniature dandelions,

the area at the rear of the mansion looking busy,

as we entered the sales area, Wise Choice for Flowers and Plants were here again, they are here on Sunday's from 10.00 in the morning until 3.00 in the afternoon, their Facebook page is here,

I started looking at this weeks offerings.

plenty of dahlias,

lots of succulents,

in the centre mother in law tongues, (Dracaena trifasciata), as they are called,

in one of the boxes some succulents, I think they are,

that had huge leaves,

we looked at some of the other stalls,

Diana was tempted with some food from the Filipino stall, but we already had lunch on the go,

considering it was a bit of a muggy overcast day, there were quite a few people here,

clouds over the mansion, everyone hoping that rain would hold off,

we were both tempted by some samosas,

new for this week a ladies choir,

Diana bought a cake in one of the stalls here,

we made a move along the side of the mansion,

Diana bought a coffee to go with her cake,

and then a great example of how not to encourage repeat business, sell customers coffee and cake and then make your tables and chairs off limits!

the good news was that we found a bench nearby,

and our view from it,

after our coffee, cake and a couple of beers, we made a move for home,

past the snail mail box, arriving home where it was time for our Sunday lunch,

first a read and a sherry,

I mentioned in Private Eye every so often there is a piece named 'Number Crunching" that I enjoy, above is one of this issue,

for our starters,

spring rolls,

followed by roast pork with all of the trimming, with gravy for Diana,

sans gravy for myself 'Cheers!',

we rounded off the meal with sticky toffee pudding,

with cream and ice cream, it was then time for our afternoon film,

Snatch we decided to watch it again, here is what I wrote about the film when I watched it before,
"if you have not yet watched Snatch, give it a try, it has everything a good British gangster film should have, Mickey, a 'pikey' (slang for an Irish Gypsy), Turkish, an unlicensed boxing promoter, a huge diamond heist, characters like 'Cousin Avi', 'Boris The Blade', 'Frankie Four Fingers' and 'Bullet Tooth Tony', guns, boxing and a dog, what more could you want? although for non UK audiences I would recommend using the subtitles as there is a fair bit of UK slang that might not easily be understood, but what a great film, I have watched it more than a few times and will certainly watch it again",
I should mention if you watch the film on Netflix you will hear and see the version where the UK slang has been taken out, a great fun South London gangster movie,

'You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity', from the film Snatch, here is the true story, a robber was arrested when he came back to the house that he robbed for his keys. The suspect had broken into the garage and was able to steal two bicycles, a laptop, and a bar fridge. His “operation” was close to being successful, except he left his apartment keys at the scene of the crime, as Oddee details:

The suspect decided he would smash the glass door of his apartment building so that he could get in, but he still couldn’t get into his place without the keys. The robber returned to the garage he stole the items from to look for his keys and that’s when the homeowner apprehended him.
The police reported that the suspect was intoxicated and in breach of two conditions of an undertaking. The 20-year-old Brandon man was arrested for break, enter and theft, two counts of failure to comply with an undertaking, two counts of mischief to property under $5000, and assaulting a police officer.

we had tried to watch Columbo but the interference was so bad it was unwatchable, so a call to BT tomorrow, we then watched a couple of documtearies about Egypt and another about the Galapagos Islands before Diana was off to bed, for myself a Last Night of the Proms, the climax of the 1992 Proms season features a rare appearance from Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, and Russian pianist Tatyana Nikolaeva, making her Proms debut, played Shostakovich's sparkling Piano Concerto No 2. The bicentenary of Rossini's birth was celebrated with the overture to his best-known opera, The Barber of Seville, and with Soirees musicales, a suite of some of his most beguiling music orchestrated by Benjamin Britten. Andrew Davis conducts the BBC Symphony Orchestra, this prom was first broadcast 12 September1992

image BBC the reason I watched this prom was that this year the entire Hallé family visited from Manchester to celebrate Sir Mark Elder’s last season as Music Director after 25 years in the role. Together they present Sir James MacMillan’s Timotheus, Bacchus and Cecilia and Mahler’s life-affirming Symphony No. 5. I needed a concert fix, although the winter season is not yet here I looked up concerts in the Royal Albert Hall, the Festival Hall on the Southbank, Fairfield Halls and the Churchill Theatre, every time I found something that I thought Diana and myself would like, every event was fully booked!, so that was that, after which I was off to bed.
