Diana wanted to up date her face book so I put on an old favorite The Cruel Sea, it was a film of one of the many books that were compulsory reading at school, next our evening meal,
then another from the Hitchcock box, Saboteur, filmed during the war it was one of many made fueling the hysteria about spies in the system, all of the tourists attractions had to be 'made' in the studio, filming land marks at the time was prohibited, I guess the most famous shot was when the villain was being help as he clung from the Statue of Liberty, the hero stopping him from falling by holding on to his sleeve till a rope could be found, but due to buying a cheap suit the stitches began to give way, would the rope arrive in time?
then another Cirque Du Soleil, Varekai, this show was a riot of colour, costume, dress and make up, best of all it was mad, totally mad! I mean that in the nicest way, the performers were absolutely superb, Diana and myself were both spellbound by the skill, daring and craft of the performers, we both said if we had the chance we would like to see the show live,
now this is a strange one, Pan's Labyrinth, I bought it on Blu-Ray a long time ago, just never got around to watching it, I guessed it was a kids sort of thing, boy was I wrong! OK it had mythical creatures with two or three fairies helping the young heroine along, but gory, cruel and torture thrown into the mix, it takes place during the Spanish uprising at the end of the Second World war, at an outpost, it is held by troops fighting the insurgents, it is enough to say that Mercy's face had fled, a well crafted and memorable movie, an adults fairy tale, also if you are tempted to buy it (and I am glad I did), it is in Spanish but with English subtitles, moving on we had one more from Tales Of The Unexpected, then hobble off to bed.
