It Is That Time Of The Year Again,

when Pantone announce their Colour of the Year,

all images courtesy of Pantoneand this year the Pantone Colour of the Year 2025 is Mocha Mousse,

known as Pantone 17-1230 Mocha Mousse is described by the Pantone Colour Institute as a mellow brown that conjures feelings of comfort and warmth,

the institute is Pantone's trend forecasting consultancy, which every year since 1999 has chosen a Pantone colour that it believes to straddle the mood of the current moment and the year ahead, not that I am any style, culture or taste expert, but I can not see this colour catching on bathrooms, or maybe it is just me and it will?

as it happens we have featured the Colour of the Year a few times before here and here, it is to far way to even think about next years colour!

Very Peri displays a spritely, joyous attitude and dynamic presence that encourages courageous creativity and imaginative expression”, so if you want to celebrate 2022 in the color of the year, here are a few Very Peri items to grace yourself with, starting with above Converse Hi-tops, $60

Bedside Carafe & Glass, $85 sorry that all of the products are US based but I am sure that in no time at all the UK will have shops with their shelves full of PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri products very soon, now where can a buy a pair of Very Peri trousers, or do you think it is not my colour?

Is There Anything That The Loony Left,

will not complain about?

they are now arguing about the choice of name for the colour of a paint!

Pantone has announced their colour of the year for 2019: PANTONE 16-1546, or to use the common name, Living Coral. Pantone describes the colour as lighthearted, optimistic, and playful, the loonies on social media reacted to the news with scorn, accusing Pantone of downplaying the environmental disaster that is destroying coral around the world, and using the colour and name to sell stuff, as if there are not enough problems in the world, fools are arguing about a paint colour! I am with Pantone on this one, Pantone has identified living coral as the color of optimism, what a better statement can there be that that, and as for the fools that disagree, get a life, or are you next going to object about ivory white or elephant grey?

It Is That Time Of The Year,

that the colour of the year is announced,

all images courtesy of Pantone, and this years colour is Viva Magenta, as featured in Forbes

and here are a few examples,

of the colour in use,

it is not everyone's cup of tea,

but it had to be said Pantone Viva Magenta 18-1750 is easy on the eye, as it happens last years colour was Pantone 17-3938 Very Peri, speaking in colours, blue last year, red this year, so will next year be the year of the yellow or the green? only 12 months or so to find out!

Bold And Colourful Street Art,

some of which made me look more than twice,

they are the work of Argentinian-Spanish artist Felipe Pantone

who creates public murals that integrate black and white patterns with bright sweeping colour spectrum's,

Pantone travels all over the world painting his bold murals, visiting Seoul, Madrid, Taipei, and Ibiza within the last year,

this is the one that made me look twice as many times as usual, the patterns seem to almost move,

one of his most recent, Chromadynamica, was created for LisbonWeek and can be seen on the blog, You can view more of his graphically-oriented public works on his Instagram and Facebook, how to change grey, plain concrete in one easy lesson!

Way Back In Or Around 1977,

I remember seeing one of these,

in a computer shop in Sydenham, it was the Apple II computer, I can not remember the price but I do remember it was expensive, I also remember the colour, it was beige, apparently it was a specific shade of beige,

photographs Kevin Burkett, Ben Zotto, above is a bottle of Apple's official beige paint, Ben Zotto tracked down this amazing antiquity and performed exhaustive research on the development of this colour, after consulting Pantone files, he has fond that this Apple is beige is Pantone 14–0105 TPG, not many people know that.

With The Lockdown For Many Continuing,

more and more jigsaw puzzles are being given prominence,

to occupy those at home, like this one from Heinz, every piece Heinz red, and yes it is a 'proper' color, the color red has long been associated with Heinz and, as a result, has become an important element of the Corporate Identification, Heinz Red (PANTONE® 485) has been chosen to be the official corporate red of Heinz, you can download the colour here, back to the puzzle, 570 pieces, all in identical Heinz red, as many already know ‘heinz is known for its iconic slow-pouring ketchup, in a period when everyone has a little more time on their hands and puzzle popularity has skyrocketed, we wanted to help pass the time by connecting the two,’ comments Brian Neumann, senior brand manager at kraft heinz canada, ‘this puzzle is worth the patience—only this time, you can’t hold it at the perfect angle to solve it.’ the heinz ketchup jigsaw puzzle features 570 pieces that look the same — ketchup red, the company Heinz Canada is giving away 57 of these puzzles around 17 countries excluding the US on its social media channels, video credit: Heinz Ketchup Canada, I guess it might be sort after, if nothing more than for its rarity value, I wonder why it is not available in the US?

I Am Guessing Not Many Of Us Have Heard Of A Book Called,

Traité des couleurs servant à la peinture à l’eau,

it is not a book that you read or look at the pictures, it is a 800 page hand painted and written book published some 270 years ago by an author known only as A. Boogert, he sat down to write a book in Dutch about mixing watercolours, not only would he begin the book with a bit about the use of colour in painting, but would go on to explain how to create certain hues and change the tone by adding one, two, or three parts of water, the premise sounds simple enough, but the final product is almost unfathomable in its detail and scope,

it took until 1963 for a new edition if you like to be published, the the Pantone Colour Guide, which when used by publishers, artists and designers means that the colour chosen in one country can be faithfully reproduced in another, the book is currently kept at the Bibliothèque Méjanes in Aix-en-Provence, France, all 898 pages of it can be viewed here, but what a Herculean task to undertake and I guess it was the only one made, I wonder how many people at the time actually looked at it?

When I First Looked At This Picture,

it reminded me so much,

of the stylised posters of the art deco period,

but this one is modem and by Thomas Yang, who creates poster editions through his 100 Copies

previous works have created famous architectural structures through inked bike tires, while his most recent design uses a more traditional approach,

Breakaway” uses various widths of flat brushes to create a peloton of riders with one breaking away from the racing pack,

he has used offset lithographic printing using one Pantone spot color.

the poster is printed on recycled 220gsm Maple White paper and, like the title of Yang’s project, is created in an edition of 100 copies, You can purchase the print and browse more of his designs on his website, as with many pictures like this, it looks so deceptively simple, but I would make such a hash of it if I tried the same technique!

Below Is A Mural By,

 Felipe Pantone,

all images via Gingko Press, and they are from a new book looking at some of the world's best street artists,

authored by Kiriakos Iosifidis, the new book is over 260 pages long and showcases walls painted by more than 90 new and emerging artists, mural by Okuda San Miguel,

with the help of many talented photographers, mural by James Bullough & Li Hill,

Mural Masters takes a look at the works of  Alexis Diaz, Hyuro, Nychos, ETAM, and several others, mural by WD,

 mural by Fintan Magee

 mural by Agostino Iacurci

 mural by Agostino Iacurci

mural by DULK

 mural by Hendrik Beikirch

individual artist bios reveal details about where the creators are from, how long they’ve been honing their craft, and where in the world their pieces can be found, the book also includes a handy index filled with contact information and social media handles (for those who have them), as well as the locations and photographer credits for each mural included in its pages, Mural Masters: A New Generation is available on shelves now, but you can save a trip and grab a copy here, I have to say I really enjoy this type of street art, not the mindless drivel that adorns railway trains and walls where deluded souls 'tag' their scribbles.
