A Few People Down Under Have Had A Lucky Day,

down under being the Australian town of Ballarat,

a unidentified man was searching the popular area of Ballarat on Wednesday with a hand-held metal detector when he struck gold, literally, unearthing a 5 kilogramme gold nugget thought to be worth $300,000 (£130k) when it is eventually sold, he found it at a depth of a little over 60cm before he carefully dug it up, 'a lot of people think Victoria’s gold fields are dead and that there’s none left, but he has worked in an area where a lot of people have worked in the past and he’s been rewarded,’ explained the town’s gold shop owner Cordell Kent,

well Cordell could well be right as reported in the Courier on Aug. 31, 2012 three other prospectors also hit gold in the Golden Triangle region of Ballarat, Bendigo and Stawell, not so big but at 3.66kg it is still worth about $500,000, Sovereign Hill Gold Museum curator Roger Trudgeon said the discovery was a life-changing event for the prospectors, 'this is a major discovery in the history of gold nuggets found in Victoria and proves there is still gold to be found, even in areas where others have prospected many times', so where do we buy a gold detector and how much are a couple of tickets to Ballarat?
