First Thing,

as it is Diana's day off,

we were out, three changes of train and one bus ride to arrive here, in Hythe at the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway, it is a miniature 15" gauge railway, the culmination of the dreams of two men; Captain J. E. P. Howey — a sometimes racing driver, millionaire land owner, former Army Officer and miniature railway aficionado and Count Louis Zborowski — eminently well-known racing driver of his day (famous for owning and racing the Chitty Bang Bang Mercedes) and considerably richer, even, than Howey, but for a fuller history look here, back to today, we had visited here before way back in September 2010,

along with Duncan,

Amber and Jade, two of his three girls,

they all had a great but wet time,

back to yesterday, we had arrived at Hythe station,

today we were pulled by Samson who was delivered to the railway on 20th July 1927, the identical twin of Hercules, a little more about the locomotive here

we had time for a coffee,

a look along the line,

the station of Hythe,

Samson was turned and backed down,

then coupled to the waiting carriages,

all set,

time to board,

Diana getting comfortable,

and here we are, all ready for the off,

we only went 1 stop, as I struggled to exit the carriage,

to Dymchurch,

where Diana made a video,

and here it is,

and here we are,

outside the station a quick look at the map,

we walked over the footbridge,

into town,

passing a few old buildings on the way,

in no time there was the pub, the Ocean Inn, we remembered from our last visit, and I also remembered from my many visit here in the 1950's and 60's,

beside it,

a seafood stall,

well I just had to have a plate of whelks for breakfast,

then a walk along the promenade, or sea wall if you like, looking towards Dungerness,

and Folkestone,

the rear beer garden of the pub next to the permanent fun fair,

as usual,

I was busy snapping away,

once pristine and clean, now this sign a testament showing the total contempt UK water companies have for their customers, as they daily pollute Britain's lakes, rivers, streams and sea, swimming not allowed due to pollution, Yuk!

one of the many Martello towers that line the coast,

more low clouds were rolling in from Dover and Folkestone,

swamping the skies towards Dungerness,

we made our way back into town,

one of the shops catering for summer tourists,

and the house of Doctor Syn,

we passed the rear of the Martello tower,

lots more summer goods nearby, by now we were hungry so the Ocean Inn it was,

fresh caught cod & chips for Diana,

smoked haddock and new potatoes for myself,

'Cheers!',

ands then another childhood memory for myself,

a knickerbocker glory, the bill came to £66.75,

all too soon we were traveling home, 3 changes of trains meant we did not arrive home until after 8.00 in the evening, no Midsomers this evening, so we spent the rest of it with Poirot before Diana was off to bed, a 05.00AM start for her tomorrow, for myself a Have I Got A Bit More News For You, before I too was off to bed.
