as I was typing the blog, with the sound of a approaching helicopter,
it was getting far closer than any others had,
very close,
it appears to be landing in the grounds of the cricket club,
and in fact did,
excitement over we were out, but soon found out what the helicopter could have been for, we wanted to take a train to Bromley, but the station was closed, the police officers at the down side of the line just said closed,
but when we got to the other side it was obvious there had been an incident, 3 fire engines, 1 emergency fire tender, 2 ambulances, 3 police cars, and countless police officers, I asked one of the local traders if they knew what had happened, a suicide, which explains why a couple of hours later the police were closing up the enquiry, I feel sorry for whoever it was, that their torment had gotten this far, but for them it's over, but my real sympathies must be with the train driver, I can not imagine what he/she saw, and the nightmare memories and dreams this will bring them for the rest of their lives,
moving on, we walked past the graveyard to the bus stop and caught a bus into Bromley,
and this is where we were going,
the Vue cinema, 2 down escalators,
and we were buying the smallest box of popcorn that is sold, £8.00, is it me or does that sound expensive!
and this is what we were here for The Odyssey, which originally was an epic poem in 24 books traditionally
attributed to the ancient Greek poet Homer. (no not Simpson, although he may be named after him), The poem is the story of Odysseus,
king of Ithaca, who wanders for 10 years (although the action of the poem
covers only the final six weeks) trying to get home after the Trojan War. On
his return, he is recognized only by his faithful dog and a nurse. With the
help of his son, Telemachus, Odysseus destroys the insistent suitors of his
faithful wife, Penelope, and several of her maids who had fraternized with the
suitors and reestablishes himself in his kingdom, as the film is new out I will not comment in case you have not seen it, but I must mention 2 things, at nearly 3 hours long, make sure the cinema you choose has comfy seats! which is why we went to the Vue with its reclining seats, the second point, dare I say it? I had after watching Brad Pitt in Troy expected Helen of Troy to be beautiful, after all her face launched a thousand ships, but this Helen looked, well ugly, I would not have thought anyone would have pushed out a leaky dinghy for her, but there it is, a real disappointment, but hey it is only a film,
out into the bright sunshine of Bromley,
a walk up the High Street,
a quick look in to H & M for Diana,
for myself a quick look at the plant displays in the street,
looking towards our destination,
and on the other side of the street another display, they really were very nice indeed,
no sale in H & M,
into Primark,
another no sale,
inside we nearly had the place to ourselves,
a few poppadum's to start,
a mixed kebab for Diana's starter,
a prawn puri for myself,
'Cheers!' we decided on a bottle of rose bubbly,
our main courses arrived, one each of a chicken, lamb and prawn dish, plus mushroom fried rice, and a aloo gobi,
not forgetting some bread,
the prawn dish was huge, 3 butterfly prawns in a delicious sauce, then Diana noticed something I did not, what appeared to be a random drizzle of a green sauce,
was a carefully drawn fish, what a nice touch, the bill came to £130.00 including service charge, back onto the bus and home,
into the park, stopping at Foxgrove Lodge,
to look at the last of the second flowering of the wisteria that covers the building,
back past the snail mail box and home for a coffee and a large spiced rum, before settling down to watch one more episode of I, Claudius before we were off to bed.
