They Are Back,

with an expensive vengeance!

Pet Rocks, you may remember them in the 1970's, in case you do not here is a post we made about them, from the post, 'when people queued up to buy a rock and make a pet of it! I kid you not, they were the brain child of Gary Dahl, the owner of an advertising agency in Los Gatos, California, he had been listening to friends complain about their pets and it started him thinking about what would be the perfect pet, his idea was a Pet Rock, low maintenance, you didn't have to feed it, you didn't have to walk it, you didn't have to clean up after it, Dahl created packaging that looked like a tiny pet carrier, added adoption papers, pedigrees, and paperwork of that sort to go along with -- a rock, just a rock, and people went crazy for those rocks and made him a millionaire in short order, really', well it appears the the people at Hermes are having another stab at the Pet Rock scene, but are cunningly calling the rock in a Hermes leather strap a paperweight, the item seems like a great deal,

the rock is totally unique, just like any other rock you find in, well your garden, riverbed, rock quarry or local rock store, but here is the thing, they have persuaded people to pay US$840 each for one at the Hermes web store! where do people like this that would pay US$840 come from? Amanda Mull, of Purse Blog, points out, “once a company has gained its clients’ trust as a reliable provider of both fine leather goods and the frisson of pleasure that comes from silently letting other people know you’re rich, it can basically draw its prices out a hat and a sector of its clientele will still line up, credit cards in hand.” is it Me or has the world gone mad? OK I get it, the straps are available in five colours, so that's all right then!
