I Enjoy Looking At Old Books,

especially the illustrations,

books like this one, delivered in the Quarterly Journal of the Geological Society of London, “On the Disposition of Iron in Variegated Strata”,

 by the botanist and geologist George Maw to the Geological Society on April 22nd 1868, the illustrations a stark reminder that in those days many illustrations were hand drawn,

 photography, although coming of age was still not used in many books,

 the illustrations could almost be works of abstract art in their own right,
