it is in fact a male Painted Bunting,
spotted in New York's Prospect Park, Brooklyn, what makes
this sighting so rare is that it is typically found around Florida and Texas,
spending winters in Mexico; very very rarely does it come as far north as New
York, in fact, according to data on record, this is the “first male Painted Bunting that’s ever had a recorded visit to Brooklyn”, as you can imagine
hundreds of bird watchers and avian lovers to flock to the park, in hopes of a
precious look as his colourful plumage, but whatever they do the bird watchers
must keep it secret from the American Museum of Natural History’s Department of
Ornithology, the last time they saw a rare bird in in Papua New Guinea on Bougainville Island they killed it!
