in Russia they are called Bengal candles, individually as a kid we used to make letters in the air with them on bonfire night, but here is another way to use them, 10,000 of them! the video is in Russian but there is English subtitles and a cute cat to help things along and at the end of the clip you can see the happy New Year cat.
