what makes this hoard particularly interesting is that it contains 760 pieces which belong to the reign of Britain's 'pirate emperor' Marcus Aurelius Mauseus Valerius Carausius, who rebelled against the Roman Empire and declared himself Emperor of Britain and northern Gaul, drinks all round for Dave and everyone that helped keep the treasure in the UK.

Another Happy Ending,
with funds raised to keep the Frome hoard in the UK,
when Dave Crisp found the hoard whilst metal detecting it was not sure what would happen to the largest collection of Roman coins ever unearthed in a single container, I mentioned the good luck story way back in July 2010, now even better news, thanks to a grant of almost £300,000 from the National Heritage Memorial Fund, and intensive fundraising campaign for the hoard, which also benefited from a grant of more than £50,000 from the Art Fund, donations from various organisations and money raised by the public, the hoard will go to the Museum of Somerset, the hoard contains 52,503 coins dating between 253AD and 293AD,
