and hopefully tomorrow will be the day, the British-built steam supercar, above, will attempt to break a century-old world land speed record for steam-powered vehicles tomorrow afternoon, set in 1906 at the Daytona Beach Road Course, the official record stands at 127mph - the speed reached by American Fred Marriott in a Stanley steam car, also they are going to try and break the unofficial record set in 1985 of 'Steamin' Demon' created by the Barber-Nicholls team, this clocked the unofficial speed of 145mph, the attempt will be made at the Edwards Air Force base in California, the driver for the record attempt will be Charles Burnett III, a nephew of Lord Montague of Beaulieu, who made it into the Guinness Book of World Records in 1999 for an offshore water speed record of 137mph, other team members include the 48-year-old test driver and father-of-two Don Wales, nephew of the late speed ace Donald Campbell and grandson of Sir Malcolm Campbell, British and Proud of it!
Fred Marriott in his Stanley Steamer in 1906, He holds the current world land speed record holder for a steam powered vehicle, they must have been a different breed of guys in those days, 127m.p.h. in the car above? no way for me!

Dear Jeff, I have not had time to check out the site yet but I will do today, the last I heard on BBC news as we went to bed was that the attempt was cancelled due to a equipment failure, but I will look later, we have just got up and are off to buy an electric drill as I need to make a few holes in the base board of the train set, best regards, Stan and Diana.
