Imagine That You Are The Owner Of A UK Business

and want to hire staff, so you write a job description, 'reliable and hard working English speaker needed, would suit school lever' if you think that is a good way to get staff you are wrong on so many fronts, OK we all know not offend on grounds of race, age or sexual orientation, so you take the above application to the Job center in Thetford, Norfolk and get told, firstly you can not use the word 'reliable workers' because it discriminates against 'unreliable' applicants, 'hard working' also discriminates against those who are not, 'would suit school leaver, also discriminates against those who are not (the job center has been sued over that one!) 'must speak English', last but not least is also discriminatory, against people who live in the UK but can not speak English, I wish I could say that I have just made all of this up, but alas this is that state of the nation when it comes to finding job seekers, so go back to the beginning and write the job description out again, remember there is a new group of people you can discriminating against, a wholly different section of the community - the completely useless!

I find that Job Advert absolutely INCREDIBLE!

Can not use the word 'reliable workers' because it discriminates against 'unreliable' applicants! or 'hard working' as it discriminates against those who are not!

This is the UK today, I'm afraid to say.

Dear Anonymous, it is sad that you can not advertise for dedicated hard working workers, I suppose you could apply for ‘any fools wanting a job' but then you have discriminated against 'non fools!' I am so glad I do have to face legislation like that, best regards, Stan and Diana.
