to see what is new this week,
cloudy skies today,
I decided to pop back to see if there was anything new,
it is the leaves that contain the colour,
they can be red, yellow and white, all on the same plant!
the flowers themselves are very small, white or cream in colour,
a few bigger plants this week,
in the supplies section,
lots of vitamins for your plants,
a bed of marigolds, these lighter in colour than I see normally,
I made my way to the front of the market, which is next door to Mini Siam, if you wish to visit,
some of the traders still putting out their goods, I always go first thing in the morning leaving my hotel about 07.30, it is cooler, less crowded and the best of the plants and flowers have not yet been sold,
I walked along one of the back isles,
to arrive at one of the aquatic stalls,
lots of plants,
fish in tubs on the floor,
so many fish!
pots a plenty,
and a nice display of cactus, instead of masses of them, a selection of a few displayed on a black cloth,
I am not sure what to class this display as,
but they looked nice,
then one of my favorite stalls,
the waterlilies,
the flowers so big, bright and bold,
some like these,
almost appearing to have a double flower,
the smaller bags,
contain,
three different colours in each,
the bigger plants sold individually,
the stalls kitten, took a interest in my shoes,
before popping back to mum,
this waterlily was impressively large, some 8" or so across,
a few stalls down a display of cactus,
next year we have a couple of holidays planned,
and cactus would make a grand choice as we will be leaving the watering of our plants on the window sills more than a few weeks,
three pretty boys in a heart shaped display,
keeping to a cactus theme, the stall selling living stones, (Lithops) was here again,
they might be a good choice for going for a time without watering,
a solitary hibiscus,
putting on a nice show,
I was amazed at the number of air plants or (Tillandsia), for sale here,
all in flower at the same time,
these I believe are Tillandsia Kolbii,
a few bi-coloured leaved plants here,
a few euphorbias, I am guessing (Euphorbia milii),
in a variety of colours,
miniature figures were here again for the small indoor gardens,
another cactus stall selling bi-coloured cactus,
at 43 baht to the £1, you can have two of these and change for a UK pound,
many of the stalls are so nicely laid out,
a few orchids,
but first I stopped at the Bonsai stall,
nothing different,
until I spotted a few,
using figures in the composition,
or a dog,
plenty of cut orchids again this week,
I mentioned I was early,
some of the stalls not yet up and running,
this stall with monkey-cups, (Nepenthes),
they are carnivorous plants with unique leaves, mainly from South-East Asia,
they are divided into lowland and highland categories for ease of growing,
past the pots,
a little about them, their flowers are just so nice, many looking that they could be made of wax, but nice though they are, in Thailand if you grow them on your property you are inviting bad luck to visit you, outside of your property is fine, but inside of it, it is a no-no,
back to the orchids,
lots of them,
but first I had a look at some of the ones hanging in baskets,
so many shapes,
and colours,
back to the ones in pots on the ground,
a new one for me,
but then so many are hybridized,
OK I am a sucker for the big blooms,
if only we lived back in Thailand,
there would be a few of these hanging under the eves of our home,
a bright red flash of color caught my eye,
Christmas Poinsettias, (Euphorbia pulcherrima),
a few fun figures,
as I approached the pots and ornaments section,
a nice couple of lions,
here smaller offerings for sale,
some for hanging in the garden or home,
a jolly couple,
and of course bunnies,
did I mention there were lots of orchids here?
well here are some more,
beautiful,
re-purposed wood here,
out here termites are everywhere, so go for mahogany or other hardwoods as a choice,
I know another orchid stall, I will not comment on each bloom, just scroll down to look at them,
a change at last!,
known in Latin as Adenium,
in a variety of colours,
in Thailand so easy to grow,
but I seldom see them in the UK.
which is a shame,
given the huge number of different flower shapes,
and colors,
it almost looks like a English garden!
my early morning photographic activity had not gone unnoticed,
with some of the workers,
the coffee stall now up and running,
a few more figures,
not quite for myself, but there are so many here they must be popular,
work continuing from my last visit here a week ago,
the next aisle,
had something quintessentially British,
roses,
a little bit difficult to grow in the south where it is so warm,
but in Northern Thailand they flourish so well,
a family of ducks lined up to say goodbye to me,
a last look as a stall holder tends her orchids,
before I make a move for my hotel,
but not before the construction and stall workers said cheerio!
