England introduced a plastic bag charge,
of 5p a bag, the charge was introduced on October 5 and
brings England in line with Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, it’s hoped
the 5p levy will reduce litter and protect wildlife as shoppers re-use old bags
and make use of stronger bags for life, but this has led, if reports can be
believed, to shoppers taking the plastic shopping baskets that shops provide, worse still it appears taking even shopping trolleys rather than pay 5p per plastic bag!
the deposit on a trolley is £1, although you would have to buy 20 bags to recoup the cost of the trolley some people seem happy to do this as a protest gesture,
now I do not condone stealing in any shape or form, but after a few months of shopping, the shoppers house is going to get pretty cluttered with trolleys, but here is a cunning plan from Etienne Reijnder, who has a few ideas about how shopping trolleys can be made into furniture, naturally he bought his brand new from the manufacturer, but really taking a shopping trolley to save a few pence, it takes all sorts (kinds) to make the world go round as some one once wrote.
